Holly jolly, Merry Christmas, Glory in the Highest, Peace…words swirled on the screen as I tried to pick out my favorite photo Christmas card title. My eyes stopped at “Peace.” Memories flooded back to early mornings on the deck at my parent’s lake cabin in northern Minnesota. This memory of peace is a small taste of what God has in store for us. He tells us that He can give us a peace that passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Many of our Sioux Falls neighbors are struggling with life issues and searching for this peace. Centrally-Located Ministry Mall The Sioux Falls Ministry Center (SFMC) is a place where holistic needs can be met and peace experienced by those in need. Similar to a mall, the SFMC is a centrally-located facility that houses a variety of ministries. With the bus stop across the street and many social service agencies within walking distance, our location is very convenient for our guests. Holistic Needs Met By Unique Ministries At the present time, we have nine unique ministries located in the SFMC facility. Very little duplication occurs between them which allows our guests to be easily walked between ministries to get the help they need rather than sending them to another part of the city. Each ministry is an independent nonprofit, employs their own staff and recruits their own board of directors and volunteers. Empowerment of Ministry The SFMC acts somewhat like mall management in that we manage the facility and rent out space to faith-based tenants. We differ in that we strive to empower ministry. How does this happen? Our tenant lease rates are about 1/3 of the average in Sioux Falls. Our desire is for ministry to focus on programs that benefit our guests rather than building concerns. Collaboration of Ministries We also encourage collaboration between ministries. Currently, The Community Outreach and the Center of Hope are partnering together to offer the Holiday Clearing House. This program helps struggling families provide a Christmas for their children. Essentially, the nine tenants fit together as the body of Christ, each with unique ministry offerings for the glory of God. Experiencing Peace Before experiencing God’s peace, holistic needs often need to be met. Our aim is to empower the nine ministries within the SFMC building to assist our guests holistically. Examples of holistic needs are affordable day care (financial), a bike for work transportation (physical), pregnancy counseling (emotional) or growing in faith through a bible study (spiritual). These needs are currently being met through ministries within the SFMC. Peace. It may seem like an overused word during the holidays. The next time you open a greeting card and see the word peace, think about those in our community who are struggling to find peace physically, financially, spiritually and emotionally. Today, many SFMC guests are experiencing a peace that passes all understanding due to healing in these areas. We praise God for you and your financial partnership with us. Lives are being restored and filled with His peace in downtown Sioux Falls.
